Thanks George i think its also great but i must admit i have become so used the takeoffs that its probably not as exciting as it used to be.. i think what would be cool would be to some how strap oneself to the back of the plane with a pair of roller blades.. or in a cart and then go along with it as it takes off.. and as long as you were far enough away from the exhaust heat and fumes it could work.. sounds like one of those sill stories you hear in true or false toilet reading books.. keep well and have a great christmas..

Tim, that's a pretty good description of the ennui of flying. Good prose which captures the "chicken or beef or will we crash?" feeling to it all. I have to say that I love flying. Firstly, there's the adventure of moving to another country (my last visit was to Tunisia) with a chance to see new things and meet interesting people. The second thrill, and I have to admit this as a post-middle age (forget post-modern) male, is that of taking off. I was a biker for many years and mostly loved the whole experience but especially when you could crack on along a deserted twisty road. Even the most sluggish Jumbo which j...u...s...t about gets airborne before the end of the runway beats that.
Keep up the bloggin'
Best wishes
