Costa Coffee - the newest addition to Bournemouth campus.....

Is it Necessary??

Last year students could buy a coffee for 60p (medium Latte), since the Vice Chancellor allowed Costa to take over we now pay £2 for a medium Latte.

So... do any of us really care whether or not we are drinking Costa coffee, after all we are on a tight budget and hardly have the cash to splash out on Costa coffee.

We haven't even got the facilities available to make our own coffee!

This is a pure exploitation of students rights, our opinions were not gained before the contract went ahead... just another money making scheme for the uni to turn the campus into a money making commercial environment!!

I'm sorry if this e-mail reaches people who don't want to read it but is there any way that these Emails can stop being sent to everyone (I understand that THIS may get sent to everyone but it's getting a bit silly now and I think a lot of people just want this to stop - or at least be sorted!)
 
If there's a place on Facebook, or an actual planned meeting taking place, to discuss any boycott then, please (somebody), let others know once and for all or just make a date (time and place) and get together to constructively discuss this.
 
I understand the prices in uni are too high (like a lot of things in life) but if you don't want to purchase coffee from Costa.....then don't: they'll soon get the message when their profits are reduced, forcing them (and the uni) to cut costs and prices.
 
The constant E-mails are a pain and a distraction to those doing dissertations, so, please, lets try to sort this!  In the mean time, if there's any way of taking my name off these 'circulars', that'd be great and much obliged!

For a moment i believed that something was going to happen, that for the first time in a long time bournemouth university students were about to get passionate enough about something to do something. however i think that the passion is simply a willingness to winge. in france the students are prepared to riot for what they beleive in, in america student lobbyists are a political entity in their own right, in bournemouth it seems they are just a bunch of telephone tough guys, willing to argue down the phone or send whining emails but not passionate enough to actually do anything, where are the placards and banners, the organised marches, the sit ins, go slows and work to rule measures of a truly displeased group that wants their say to be heard? unfortunately everyone is all too happy to whinge about the price of their skinny latte as they slowly sip it but noone is actually prepared to do anything about it. why do the chancellery sit happy in their offices counting the coffers gained from overpriced franchises? because they know their will be no real recourse, just a group on facebook that will have its moan before fading as everone rushes to join the new group for whats happening friday night.
rest easy martin luther with your dream, for noone in bournemouth will rival you in the history books, in bournemouth there are no dreams, simply overpriced skinny lattes and a bunch of apathetic whingers.

Apparently they really need the cards back when were done with them even though they have our photographs on them,I assume the vice chancellor doesn't intend to keep a photograph album of all his dear students. Great video- I don't think it's just Costa either- the SU shop is expensive too. I have a thing for babybels- in the SU shop they're about 77p, in Tesco express (which is expensive) they're 50p.
I'm a features editor for Nerve- can I get some interviews with you guys and then I can put a piece in Nerve- then we can publish our complaints further!

Costa Coffee - the newest addition to Bournemouth campus.....
 
Is it Necessary??
 
Last year students could buy a coffee for 60p (medium Latte), since the Vice Chancellor allowed Costa to take over we now pay £2 for a medium Latte.
 
So... do any of us really care whether or not we are drinking Costa coffee, after all we are on a tight budget and hardly have the cash to splash out on Costa coffee.
 
We haven't even got the facilities available to make our own coffee!
 
This is a pure exploitation of students rights, our opinions were not gained before the contract went ahead... just another money making scheme for the uni to turn the campus into a money making commercial environment!!
